Overview

The CD-ROM system is made up of the drive, the decoder and the other parts needed to read a CD-ROM.1

It supports CD-DA, CD-ROM XA and PlayStation disc formats.1

CD-ROM Decoder

The CD-ROM decoder reads data from a compact disc. It plays the data as sound or transfers it to main memory.2

Data from the drive goes into the CD-ROM buffer. The sound source in the decoder processes it after error correction.2

The decoder plays CD-DA 16-bit PCM data and the ADPCM data defined by CD-ROM XA.2

The audio signal goes to the SPU through a mixer built into the decoder.2

Mixer

The built-in mixer has 4 attenuators. The attenuation of each attenuator sets the mix of the stereo output.2

In the SPU the decoder output is mixed with the SPU output. It then passes through the reverb unit to the audio output.2
