--- title: SEP (PS Multi-Track Sequence Data) type: format summary: Package of several SEQ data files managed as one file. category: File formats info: ID = SEQp --- ## Overview A SEP is a package that contains several [SEQ](/formats/seq/) data files, so that the SEQ files can be managed as one file. A program accesses one SEQ in the package by the ID number returned when the SEP is opened and by the SEQ number. The access functions are described in the Run-Time Library Reference.[^ff43] ## Structure The SEP opens with an ID and a version. Each SEQ in the package then follows with its own SEQ ID, timing fields and data size, and its score data runs to an end-of-SEQ marker. The fields and their byte counts are shown below.[^ff44] Table: SEP header | Field | Byte count | | --- | --- | | ID (SEQp) | 4 | | Version | 2 | Table: SEQ entry in a SEP | Field | Byte count | | --- | --- | | SEQ ID | 2 | | Resolution of quarter note | 2 | | Tempo | 3 | | Rhythm | 2 | | Data size | 4 | | Score data | Any | | End of SEQ | 3 | Figure 200 of the manual gives the tempo field as 3 bytes for SEQ 0 but 2 bytes for SEQ 1. The table above follows SEQ 0.[^ff44] ## References [^ff43]: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. File Formats. November 1998. Page 4-3. [^ff44]: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. File Formats.
